Volunteers Needed-Spring Into Books!
In the spring of 2015, Goshen Schools piloted a new program called Spring Into Books (SIB). The pilot program was held in a handful of kindergarten and preschool classrooms in the district. As we move into the spring of 2016, we are hoping to implement the program at all elementary schools for kindergarten and also at the GCS preschool at Prairie View. Spring Into Books will run for four weeks with the reader visiting one time per week, much like Real Men Read. The program will run the last two weeks of April and the first two weeks of May (April 18th – May 13th). An orientation will be held on Wednesday, April 13th at lunch time, with the place to be determined soon.
Our hope with the SIB program is to encourage local women to share their leadership skills and love of reading with our youngest students. The goal is to best accommodate the readers’ schedules; however, we must first and foremost be sensitive to the classroom schedules, so we ask for flexibility from the volunteers! We also make every effort to give our readers a school near work or home, but we do take readers on a first come first served basis, as well as, try to pair according to reader/classroom schedules! Please note, with the program involving the whole class, the teachers will be present to assist with classroom management.
