Goshen High School Names Jordan and Erin Smeltzer as Head Cross Country Coaches

Goshen, IN – Goshen High School (GHS) is pleased to announce Jordan Smeltzer as the new head coach of the Goshen High School boys cross country team and Erin Smeltzer as the new head coach of the girls cross country team.
Both Jordan and Erin are current members of the Goshen Community Schools (GCS) staff and bring a strong background in both education and athletics. Jordan is a fourth-grade teacher at Waterford Elementary School and is completing his ninth year with GCS. Erin is a math teacher at GHS and has been with the district for six years as part of her nine-year teaching career. Their shared commitment to students, both in and out of the classroom, will be a strong asset to the cross-country program.
Jordan brings a deep background in competitive running, beginning in junior high and continuing through college. As a student-athlete at Goshen College, he was a three-time NAIA National Qualifier in cross country and a two-time qualifier in track. His experience competing across a wide range of distances, combined with his passion for teaching and mentoring students, has prepared him well for this role.
“I’m excited to help athletes achieve both personal and team goals while building a supportive team community,” said Jordan. “I hope to foster a lifelong love of running and create an environment where students can build camaraderie and lasting friendships.”
Erin also brings extensive experience as both a runner and a coach. She began running in middle school and competed in cross country and track at the collegiate level. She has previously served as the head girls track coach at Goshen High School and looks forward to building on the strong foundation established by past cross country leadership.
“Cross country is a unique sport as it is such a tight-knit community where runners of all abilities come together as a team to push each other to improve and have fun along the way,” said Erin Smeltzer. “We strongly believe in the importance of developing well-rounded student-athletes who work hard at everything they do, whether that be academics, music, athletics, or other interests.”
Together, the Smeltzers bring a shared vision of building a positive, supportive culture centered on growth, teamwork, and student development. Both emphasize that success extends beyond competition, focusing on helping studentathletes grow into well-rounded individuals who value hard work, resilience, and connection.
“I’m excited to coach alongside my wife, Erin,” said Jordan. “Together we both have a wealth of running experience and knowledge, and I’m excited to work together and see how far we can take the Goshen cross country program.”
GCS looks forward to the continued growth and success of the cross-country program under their leadership.
