A note from GCS Percussion Director Derrick Shannon:
During Spring Break, the Winter Percussion Ensemble traveled to Dayton Ohio to compete in the Winter Guard International World Championships. We have gone to this competition in the past and entered into the basic/intermediate divisions and have done very well. This year we competed in the most advanced divisions with two shows and turned many heads in the activity! Our marching group took 8th place and our concert group took 2nd place! Both groups had great preliminary runs whereas the marching group was ranked 6th and the concert group actually won prelims. I just wanted to forward on videos of these shows in case you wanted to see them. I am also adding links to our final marching show warm up in which we had hundreds of people watching! I would like to thank all of you because we would not be able to do the things that we do if it weren’t for you. Now Goshen Percussion is one of the top groups in the country that everyone is talking about!
Marching Show: Presence in Absence – This show deals with people who may have made a large impact on your life that are no longer with us. The moral of the show is that although they are no longer here, the memories and experiences that you’ve shared still live on.
Concert Show: Requiem – A requiem is a musical term for “Mass for the dead”. We used classical music from Mozart and Verdi for this show.
