GHS Athletes Selected for McDonald’s All-Star Basketball Game
McDONALD’S® AND BETHEL COLLEGE ANNOUNCE FIFTH ANNUAL McDONALD’S MICHIANA HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STAR BASKETBALL GAMES, COACHES AND PLAYERS
SOUTH BEND, IN (March 4, 2016) – The fifth annual McDonald’s® Michiana High School All-Star Basketball Games will be held Tuesday, March 29, at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind. McDonald’s Restaurants of Northern Indiana and Bethel College Athletics are teaming up again this year to bring this family event showcasing local high school talent in the northern Indiana and southwest Michigan area.
Both games will be played in the Wiekamp Athletics Center on the campus of Bethel College. The girls game will begin at 5 p.m. and the boys game will begin at 7:15 p.m. Tickets for the Games will be sold at the door: $5 for adults, $2 for students and children 12 and under are free.
Monday, March 28, the girls and boys teams will tour the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Memorial Children’s Hospital as well as visit the children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
“This a great opportunity for Michiana community to see some of the best high school basketball players in our area,” said David Sparks, chair of the event. “It’s also an opportunity for these high school athletes to be a part of Ronald McDonald House Charities® and the organization’s efforts to provide a special place to comfort the parents and families of critically ill or injured children from our area communities.
“The past four events were a tremendous success,” said Mike Lightfoot, head coach of the Bethel men’s basketball team. “It’s a wonderful way to showcase the terrific high school talent we have in the Michiana area, and it also provides these students with an opportunity to give back to our community.”
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Memorial Children’s Hospital provides the comforts of home to families of hospitalized children. For these families, the Family Room is a place to step away for a little while, grab a shower, hot meal or some much needed rest. Families draw support from each other, and from the caring volunteers who help them through a truly difficult time in their lives.
Honorary coaches for this year’s all-stars are Chuck Freeby and Bob Nagle. Freeby is currently anchor for LeSEA’s international news, The Harvest Show, and also calls play-by-play on the high school football and basketball “Game of the Week” and various college sports’ events.
