GCS-Real Men Read
The United Way funded Real Men Read (RMR) program will once again be held at all of the elementary schools within Goshen Community Schools. The RMR commitment remains one visit to a classroom per week, for approximately 30 minutes. We are hoping to have enough readers, to reach all 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th classrooms in Goshen Schools!
As in previous years, the program will begin in late October (after Fall Break) and finish up at the end of November (prior to Thanksgiving). The four weeks Real Men Read will be held are as follows: October 24-28, October 31-November 4, November 7-11, and November 14-18.
A short Orientation/Thank You Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, October 12th from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Grace Community Church in Goshen. At the luncheon we will give out the book packets and answer any questions volunteers might have.
Our goal with the RMR program is to involve community men in the local schools, and we do our best to accommodate the readers’ schedules. However, we must be sensitive to the classroom schedules, so we ask for flexibility! We also make every effort to give our readers a school near their work or home, but we do take readers on a first come first served basis, as well as, try to pair according to reader/classroom schedules. Please note the teachers will always be present to assist with classroom management.
All readers will need to complete a limited background check prior to the participating. Background check forms will be sent out to volunteers via email, after confirmation is made. We are asking readers to sign up by October 5th. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Michelle Kercher at mkercher@goshenschools.org or 574-535-3086.
