Board Recognitions From Oct 27 Meeting
The following individuals were recognized at the board meeting on Oct 27.
Alayna Yoder, a GMS 8th grader, was honored for her active role in the Student/Faculty Advisory Group (SFA) at GMS. The SFA program was implemented last year, and Alayna was instrumental in getting it going. SFA is an after school committee which provides an opportunity for students to meet with staff to discuss issues of concern to them. Student representatives were chosen for SFA based upon their leadership skills, good grades, good behavior, and their general interest in school. SFA is made up of approximately 6-10 students per grade, teachers, and administrators. The group has been successful in that it has given students a voice in their school, and it has also helped students and staff to work together as a unit.
Tony Kridler was honored for his work with new GMS teachers. Tony is in his third year of meeting with new teachers every non-payday Friday before school, to provide professional development. He has introduced and explained TAP (the evaluation system used by GCS) to the teachers. He has also taught them TAP strategies, and classroom management, based upon the book “Teach Like a Champion”.
Officer Tommy Steele, the School Resource Officer (SRO) for GMS, was honored for going over and above his official duties. Ms. Shreiner shared that Officer Steele is firm with students, but also builds relationships with them, and holds them to high expectations. Ms. Shreiner stated that Officer Steele always lets the staff know where he is or where he is going to be, and when he isn’t at the school, GMS can feel it.
