2019 Spring Into Reading
Spring Into Reading (SIR), one of our READ UNITED programs funded by United Way of Elkhart County, is just around the corner! SIR consists of four weekly sessions within the classrooms of our youngest students. Volunteers spend approximately 30 minutes per week reading and interacting with children in our schools. The program starts on April 16th and runs through Friday, May 10th. An orientation will be held on Wednesday, April 10th from 12:00-1:00pm at the United Way of Elkhart County building.
The SIR program allows community members to share their leadership skills, careers, interests and love of reading with our Pre-K or Kindergarten students. Readers are placed on a first come, first served basis with attempts to pair according to reader/classroom schedules! Please note that the teachers will be present to assist with classroom management. Book packets with prompt cards are provided for each reader, and those packets will be distributed at the luncheon on April 10th.
There is a need for 1-2 bilingual readers in our Dual Language classrooms.
All readers will need to complete a limited background check prior to participating. Please email Sharon Sarber at ssarber@goshenschools.org if you need a background check form.
For more information, or to participate, you may contact Sharon Sarber at ssarber@goshenschools.org or 574-533-8631, ext. 2048.
THANK YOU!
